All other vacancies in the School of Medicine are processed by Human Resources. Classification of jobs generally fall into the following areas:

Patient Care - Although the School of Medicine is not a hospital, our physicians and health professionals provide medical treatment to patients at the Center for Advanced Medicine and other outpatient locations throughout the bi-state region.  

Sophisticated computer models help us push the frontiers of medical discovery.
Allied Health Professionals - Medical technicians, medical technologists and clinical laboratory technologists work in clinical laboratories, usually located at the medical campus. Nurses attend to patients in outpatient clinical treatment, coordinate clinical research and perform other specialized tasks.We employ over 750 registered nurses, medical assistants and advanced practice nurses. 

Information Systems - Computer professionals at the School of Medicine perform programming and other data analysis; they create and maintain computer networks and they serve as system managers. The School of Medicine is a highly computerized facility, utilizing a variety of hardware and operating systems.

A crucial element in health care - a warm and caring human voice.
Insurance and Billing - Employees working in this field post payments, follow-up on bills, process insurance claims, register patients and schedule appointments and often have direct patient contact.

Clerical - Jobs in this group include data entry; gathering patient information; compiling records and charts; typing forms, memos and correspondence, and specialized work with medical records.

Secretarial - Secretarial staff organize, manage and provide support for the clinical, research and business offices of the Medical School.

In the year 2007, the School of Medicine was 4th in the USA for research funding from the National Institutes of Health.
Research - Technicians and technologists active in the school's 1,000-plus research investigations analyze data, prepare and perform experiments, maintain laboratory equipment, and assist in the preparation of publications.

Management - Management positions include grant administration and budgeting; financial reporting; strategic, business and financial planning; coordinating work flow and supervising staff.

Accounting - This includes positions in accounts payable and receivables, purchasing, payroll, financial management, financial analysis and budgeting. The Medical School's annual budget is more than 500 million dollars.

Service - Service personnel keep the School of Medicine running smoothly. These jobs include animal caretakers, custodians, security officers, shipping and receiving clerks, and environmental technicians. Skilled carpenters electricians, painters, plumbers and other skilled trades of often required on a short- or long-term basis.
