Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis
ONE OF THE MOST SCIENTIFICALLY SOPHISTICATED RADIOLOGICAL CENTERS IN THE WORLD
Established in 1930, Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) is internationally recognized for its groundbreaking research—from the development of the first diagnostic test for gallbladder disease to the current development of functional maps of the brain’s sensory and language information-processing areas.
Points of Distinction
Mallinckrodt Institute covers more than 400,000 square feet, comprising its own 13-story building with satellite facilities in Barnes-Jewish, St. Louis Children’s, and Wohl hospitals; the Clinical Sciences Research and East buildings; the Scott Avenue Imaging Center; and the Center for Advanced Medicine. The Institute serves as the Department of Radiology for Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.

More than 600,000 diagnostic and nuclear medicine examinations and interventional radiology procedures are performed annually.
The Institute’s scientists receive $18 million annually in research funding.
Our radiologists and nuclear medicine physicians are consistently listed in The Best Doctors in America.
Mallinckrodt Institute’s four-year resident training program is the largest of its kind in the United States.
