No Incision Decision
Is your family complete? There are many options for preventing future pregnancies. Vasectomies are considered a permanent way of preventing pregnancy, while preserving all sexual function in men. A vasectomy is safer, simpler and less expensive than tubal sterilization for women. A new method, called no-scalpel vasectomy, simplifies the procedure.
With no-scalpel vasectomy, the doctor merely numbs and pierces the skin to reach the vas deferens. This results in less injury to the skin, less bleeding and risk of infection than with open surgery. No stitches are required, so there is less discomfort and quicker recovery. The procedure is performed in the doctor’s office and you can resume normal activities in a few days.
Washington University urologic surgeons are experts at performing vasectomies of all types, including the no-scalpel technique. Our specialists can answer any questions about the range of options provided to men who want to take the step to prevent future pregnancies in their families.
