Internal Medicine / Oncology - Medical Oncology: Social Work

Social work services are available to patients and families receiving care at the Siteman Cancer Center. Services are provided by a licensed social worker who is professionally trained to help patients and families cope with the changes that occur and the needs that arise after a cancer diagnosis.

Social work services are available upon referral from staff or by calling 314-747-1236.

What Do Social Workers Do?

Social workers provide skilled support during the time of illness and treatment by providing the following services to patients and families:

Social workers have a vast knowledge of available resources in the community and can link patients to services that assist with:

  • Financial concerns
  • Transportation
  • Prescription drugs
  • Disability/employment
  • Housing/accommodations
  • Counseling services and support groups

    Social workers are qualified and available to talk with patients and family members about adjustment to diagnosis and treatment, changes in physical appearance and/or abilities, end of life concerns/sorrow, insurance & financial matters (including Medicaid & Medicare), advance directives (living will & health care Durable Power of Attorney)
