The Washington University Diabetes Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, headed up by Garry Tobin, M.D., it is an innovative resource for people with diabetes. Patients seen in the Diabetes Center will receive highly coordinated, comprehensive care provided by Washington University endocrinologists, specially trained nurses and a host of Barnes-Jewish diabetic educators and nutritionists. The Diabetes Center is located on the 13th floor of the Center for Advanced Medicine.

This number is staffed 24 hours by referral specialists who can help:
Facilitate patient transfers
Coordinate Emergency and Trauma Center access
Schedule patient appointments, call between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Arrange phone consults
Seek Continuing Medical Education information
Both newly diagnosed and long-time diabetes patients can take advantage of the center's comprehensive range of services in one convenient setting. Services include individualized teaching sessions on controlling their diabetes small group classes with certifed nurse educators with topics such as:
Insulin self management
Carbohydrate counting
Insulin pumps
Registered dietitians specializing in diabetes are available for nutrition counseling.
A benefit for people with diabetes is the inclusive Annual Tune-Up. This program is available for people with diabetes, even if they are not a patient of the Diabetes Center.[more]
